Duncan Watmore was on the scoresheet again as Sunderland Under-21s claimed a 1-1 draw away to Everton at Goodison Park.
Watmore was a constant threat and might have had more goals with some better finishing.
The Sunderland side also featured Vito Mannone, Wes Brown and Valentin Roberge.
Everton went ahead after just four minutes.
A bad ball from Roberge was cut out by Leon Osman, who threaded a through ball to Leandro Rodriquez, and he fired past Mannone from a narrow angle.
The hosts could have been two up two minutes later when Mannone made a good save from Conor Grant.
Sunderland then dominated the remainder of the half and will have gone in at the break wondering how they were not on level terms.
It was more even after the break, with Everton missing two good chances to win it late on, with Rodriguez and Gethin Jones both scuffing shots.
Sunderland: Mannone, J Robson, T Robson, Agnew, Brown, Roberge, Mavrias, Smith, Watmore, Gooch, Greenwood. Subs: Stryjek, E Robson, McEvoy, Brady, Blinco.
