Sunderland's hopes of survival took another heavy blow after going down 1-0 to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Richard Mennear gives his player ratings below:

Sunderland (4-3-3)

Jordan Pickford: Made three excellent saves in the first half - one was world class. Kept Sunderland in the game at times and again showed his class....MOM 7

Billy Jones: Average down the right flank, didn't get forward much. Had his work cut out with Watford attack. Awful goal to concede. Booked...5

John O'Shea (C): Caught out by Okaka but Kone covered. Organised well. Watford had three headers inside the area for the opening goal....6

Lamine Kone: Covered well when Watford broke quickly. The Watford attack posed a physical threat throughout so had work cut-out. Poor goal to concede....6

Bryan Oviedo: Gave the ball away cheaply at times. Got forward more than Jones but was busy at the back....6

Jason Denayer: Gave ball away cheaply. Poor early on. Too many stray passes, not his best game. Poor decision making littered Sunderland's play. Midfield overpowered...5

Jack Rodwell: Saw an effort dip over the bar early on. Watford's midfield overpowered Sunderland, especially when they broke. Ball-watching for the goal. Poor....5

Darron Gibson: Mixed first half, some of his corners were bang on the money but then Watford almost scored from another on the break. Moyes was on his case at times....5

Fabio Borini: Chose the wrong pass when in a good position. Decision making poor. Had a poor game but did force a good save from Gomes late on.....5

Adnan Januzaj: Twice went close first half and was Sunderland's biggest attacking threat in the opening 45 minutes but should have scored second half. Tame effort....5

Jermain Defoe: Watford's defence was makeshift. Service to Defoe should have been better and more frequent. Whole of Wearside held their breath went he went down injured. Finished the game..6

Didier Ndong (for Gibson, 61): Made a difference when he came on. Added some energy and an attacking threat.....6

Wahbi Khazri (for Januzaj, 70): Came on to loud cheers. Desperate to make a good impression. Was booked for going face-to-face with the linesman. Set piece delivery poor...6
