MANCHESTER United are interested in Sunderland stopper Vito Mannone, according to reports in Italy.
Mannone has been one of the stand-out performers for the Black Cats during Gus Poyet’s reign after his £2million summer arrival from Arsenal.
But there is speculation in Italy today that Man United have made an enquiry for Mannone, as they look for back-up to first-choice keeper David De Gea.
Mannone would be wary of such a move after being forced to play a bit-part role at Arsenal and enjoying his first run of regular first-team football in the Premier League.
And Sunderland would be equally resistant to such a deal after unearthing such a competent replacement for the departed Simon Mignolet.
Sunderland’s focus is on adding a keeper to the squad, not selling one, with Keiren Westwood’s season-ending shoulder injury forcing Poyet to look for some cover for Mannone.
The Black Cats have been interested in Catania’s Mariano Andujar, while they were today linked with Genoa’s 36-year-old Argentine Albano Bizzarri.
