SUNDERLAND have seen a bid turned down for Leeds full-back Sam Byram, according to reports today.

The Daily Star claims that both Sunderland and Southampton have seen offers of around £4million rejected for Byram, who has attracted intense interest from the Premier League over the last couple of seasons.

Leeds are keen to keep hold of Byram, 20, who still has another two years to run on his contract at Elland Road.

But Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is eager for further defensive recruits before the end of the transfer window, while Southampton are also desperate for new full-backs after selling Luke Shaw to Manchester United and Callum Chambers to Arsenal.
