HARRY Redknapp would be the first to politely inform anyone that he is not a “wheeler and dealer” when it comes to the transfer window, but he will be looking to strengthen his Tottenham squad this January.

Spurs have been flying high so far this season and will be looking to buy players who will keep them in contention for a lucrative Champions League spot.

A consistent defence has been a problem for Spurs this season, especially given the long term injury to captain Michael Dawson and the patchy availability of Ledley King.

A move for Bolton centre back Gary Cahill could be on the cards. However, Bolton have agredd a fee with Chelsea for the 26-year-old. Blackburn’s Christopher Samba has also been linked with Tottenham but reports suggest Arsenal will battle for the centre-half’s signature.

Spurs will also be looking to strengthen their striking options this January with Roman Pavlyuchenko and Giovanni Dos Santos linked with a move away from White Hart Lane. Harry Redknapp’s long-term striking options are also limited considering top-scorer Emmanuel Adebayor is only on loan.

There have been rumours that Redknapp might make a move for 31-year-old Juventus striker Amauri, though reported interest in wantaway Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has cooled. Meanwhile Adebayor, on loan from Man City, has ruled out making his loan move permanent this January.

As for departures Giovanni Dos Santos, who has failed to impress since his move from Barcalona, looks like he will complete his move to Sevilla. Niko Krancjar and Roman Pavlyuchenko have been frustrated in recent seasons by a lack of first team football and could move this January. Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has also made his wish to leave the club clear.

Talk of Luka Modric leaving for Chelsea has been quiet this season with Tottenham sitting higher in the table than their London rivals. There has been rumours of Brazilian Sandro being a possible target for injury-struck Manchester United.

Tottenham are willing to let youngsters Andros Townsend and Jake Livermore go out on loan.

As always Redknapp is keeping his cards close to his chest and with David Beckham out of contract, Tottenham are a team to keep your eye on this transfer window.

Gary Cahill, Amauri, Christopher Samba, David Beckham
