Burge looks set to start the season as Sunderland's number one, having impressed as Jon McLaughlin's deputy last season. But it remains to be seen what calibre of goalkeeper Phil Parkinson will sign to challenge Burge - which could change who fans are backing to start between the sticks.
So as chosen by the Black Cats’ faithful, here’s Sunderland’s strongest starting line-up as things stand.
Sunderland supporters voted heavily for Wright to start as part of the back three, having been impressed with how the Australian helped to shore up the Black Cats' backline during his loan spell with the club last season.
Similarly to Wright, Willis was backed by a strong number of fans in our poll - and it's no surprise, given his performances in the 2019/20 season.
Flanagan was backed to start ahead of youngster Brandon Taylor but, with Parkinson keen to add another defender to his ranks, that verdict may well change before September 12.
No surprises here! The fan favourite was the overwhelming choice at right wing-back, beating Conor McLaughlin to the starting spot.
Hume gets the backing of the Sunderland supporters for now, but it will be interesting to see if that viewpoint shifts if a deal for Luke Garbutt can be sealed.
Having captained the side for a large spell under Parkinson, Power looks set to start the season as one of Sunderland's midfield two - and fans have backed his inclusion in the side.
Supporters have voted for the Dobson-Power partnership to continue, with Dobson narrowly pipping Josh Scowen to the second starting spot in the midfield.
The King! Another popular choice among supporters after extending his contract on Wearside, Maguire was a key cog in the Sunderland side that impressed after the turn of the year and will be looking to replicate those performances moving into the 2020/21 season.
Another who caught the eye in Sunderland's mid-season resurgence, it could be a big season for the American at the Stadium of Light.
A summer arrival from Millwall, the striker has been backed to get the nod ahead of Charlie Wyke and Will Grigg. Here's hoping he can hit the goal trail!
