A WELCOME win and performance. I’ve been a critic of Bruce, but he got it right on Saturday – got to give credit when it’s due.
Davies is a big threat, but we nullified that threat with relative ease, like we did with Crouch against Stoke.
The team selection was positive with two up front, Wickham partnering Bendtner, though Larsson still started on the left with Sess on the right.
The first half wasn’t great, Bolton had a couple of half-chances and O’Shea headed a Larsson free-kick wide.
The second half saw a real change as we dominated Bolton. Sess, my man of the match, moved wide left, with Larsson going to the right. Vaughan blasted over and we forced a succession of corners.
The impressive Wickham hit the bar with a misplaced cross, then Sess swivelled excellently to put us in front after the ball bounced in the box from a corner.
Mignolet made a good save when Pratley was clean through and Bolton put us under a bit of pressure, but we broke away and Sess fed Bendtner to wrap up a fully deserved win. Nearly 5,000 Sunderland fans there, magnificent support.
Bring on Villa and Mr B£nt.
