‘That D that looks like a target, might inspire our strikers to hit the target’ – fans react to new SAFC kit

Sunderland AFC have scored a hit with fans over their new kit.

The Black Cats yesterday unveiled their new-look home strip for the 2015/16 season.

In a change from recent shirts, it features more use of white. The club have also confirmed that the logo of new sponsors Dafabet will not feature on junior shirts because of Premier League regulations.

Midfielder Seb Larsson gave the adidas kit the thumbs-up.

The 2014/15 player of the season said: “Sunderland fans are rightly proud of their famous red and white stripes and for me as a player it is a privilege to pull on the shirt every week.

“The new shirt looks very smart, celebrating the rich history and tradition of the club but featuring all the modern elements that you need in today’s game.” The kit was well received by many supporters who visited the Echo’s Facebookpage.

“Cannot wait to get one,” Ian Taggart wrote, while Darren Holt added: “I think it looks good.”

Mark McHale hoped the new design would increase Sunderland’s prowess in front of goal, remarking: “Love it and that D that looks like a target, might inspire our strikers to hit the target haha.”

James Clark-Allan was more concerned about the style of play, compared to the style of shirt, saying: “Don’t care what the shirt looks like - just want players with passion who are fit to wear it next season!”

The strip will go on sale at club stores at the Stadium of Light, The Galleries in Washington and Debenhams, in The Bridges, on Thursday and also be available online. Fans can pre-order their shirts now online at www.safcstore.com.

A brand new away strip is also set to be revealed by the club in the coming weeks.
