Under the latest plans put forward by the EFL – which would see League One decided on an unweighted points-per-game basis if the campaign cannot be completed – Oxford would finish fourth and would be eligible to take part in the play-offs.

But the U’s remain keen to see the season played to completion, echoing the views of Sunderland, Portsmouth and Peterborough United.

It is widely expected that the league season will be curtailed in the near future, but Robinson is hopeful that common sense will prevail when clubs cast their final vote over the fate of the campaign.

“There has been so much talk about how to end the season and it feels like we are almost there now,” he told Oxford’s official website.

"We have faith in the process, we trust that common sense will win through and all we want is the chance for the players to put on those yellow shirts again and try to win promotion on the pitch.”

Director Niall McWilliams added: “We have said all along that we think the fairest way to decide the league is by playing matches, always with the proviso that it is done with the health and safety of our players and staff as the priority.

"The EFL has asked clubs to give their views and ours will categorically be ‘let’s play’."
