Sunderland's potential Papa John's Trophy final opponents confirmed ahead of Lincoln City clash

The Black Cats welcome the Imps to the Stadium of Light on Wednesday evening (6pm kick-off) as they look to make the final of the competition for the second time in three years.

And waiting beneath the arch at Wembley will be the League Two side – who overcame Oxford United in the first of the two semi-finals.

Goals either side of the break from Kayne Woolery and Kieron Morris helped Keith Hill's side to a shock victory at the Kassam Stadium.

It could have been a very different story had Matty Taylor scored a penalty for Oxford with the scores at 1-0, with the striker also hitting the post.

But it’s Tranmere who have sealed their progression to the final as Sunderland and Lincoln prepare to do battle for the second spot in the final.
