SUNDERLAND striker Daniel Wright was an unused sub as England U17s crashed out of the UEFA U17 European Championships.
John Peacock’s Three Lions side were beaten 1-0 by Russia, with Aleksei Tataev’s controversial header knocking them out at the quarter-final stage.
Nathan Holland missed a penalty for England before Russia took the lead just before the hour-mark.
Tataev’s header appeared to have been cleared by Holland but the assistant referee awarded the goal, which was enough to see England crash out of the tournament.
Sunderland teenager Wright will be hoping for a recall when Peacock’s side face fellow losing quarter-finalists Spain on Tuesday in a World Cup play-off.
They are looking to secure their place at the finals in Chile this October.
