LOCAL rivals Sunderland Ladies and Durham Women will clash in the Continental Cup this season.
The two teams were put in the same group in the draw.
Durham host Sunderland on Wednesday, July 22, in a game likely to see goalkeeper Helen Alderson – who has just switched clubs – play for Durham against the Lady Black Cats.
As well as Sunderland, the group includes two other FAWSL1 sides in Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City.
Durham’s WSL2 rivals Doncaster Rovers Belles and Everton complete Group 2.

There is a change in the structure of the competition this season.
While the three groups of six will remain unaltered, there are now eight knockout places up for grabs – as opposed to four – with the quarter-final games to be made up of the top two teams from each pool and the two best third-placed sides.

Wednesday July 22: Durham v Sunderland
Wednesday July 2: Manchester City v Durham, Sunderland v Everton
Saturday August 15: Liverpool v Durham, Sunderland v Manchester City
Wednesday August 26: Liverpool v Sunderland
Thursday August 27: Doncaster Rovers Belles v Durham
Sunday August 30: Durham v Everton, Sunderland v Doncaster Belles
Group One: Arsenal, Chelsea, London Bees, Millwall Lionesses, Reading, Watford
Group Three: Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Bristol Academy, Notts County, Oxford United, Yeovil Town
The quarter-finals will take place on September 12 and September 13, with the last-four doing battle a month later, on October 10 and October 11.
The showpiece finale, which will be held at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground, is set for November 1.
