Dick Advocaat has handed DeAndre Yedlin his first Sunderland start - with Fabio Borini starting up front against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup.

The American full-back signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day and has had to be patient for his first start.

But Yedlin comes in to the Sunderland defence for the third round clash, with Vito Mannone named in goal.

Italian striker Borini leads the line, with Jermain Defoe dropping down to the bench, while Adam Johnson also gets a chance to impress Dick Advocaat.

John O’Shea has recovered from illness and returns to the Sunderland starting line-up for the repeat of the 2014 Capital One Cup final.
