Sunderland Under-23s will face PSV Eindhoven – last season’s runners-up – in the Premier League International Cup this season.

The Black Cats will renew acquaintance with the Dutch club, who beat them 1-0 in the quarter-finals last term.

Sunderland have been drawn in Group A alongside PSV (who lost to Villarreal in last season’s final), Portuguese giants Benfica, who reached the quarter-finals last year, and Derby County.

The six group winners will qualify for the quarter-finals, along with the two best second-placed clubs.

Last season, only three English clubs won through to the last eight, and only Chelsea got as far as the semi-finals.
