TEN-MAN Sunderland Under-21s came away with a point after a goalless draw at Norwich City.
Robbie Stockdale’s side were up against it after centre-half Tom McNamee was sent off early in the second half against the Canaries, but they battled away to secure a share of the spoils.
The impressive Duncan Watmore had come close to opening the scoring inside the first 15 minutes when he rounded goalkeeper Remi Matthews before his shot was cleared off the line.
Matthews then had to be alert to palm away a free-kick from Martin Smith.
But the game changed in the 53rd minute when McNamee lunged into ex-Leeds striker Luciano Becchio and prompted a mass brawl between the two sets of players.
McNamee, who had endured a miserable outing against Southampton last week, was sent off, although Sunderland still pressed to open the scoring - Watmore shooting wide when sent through one-on-one.
Norwich defender Ignasi Miquel headed straight at Jordan Pickford late on, but Sunderland managed to restrict the threat of the hosts.
