Sunderland won’t be making a loan move in January for Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend – because they already have his Spurs team-mate DeAndre Yedlin in their squad.

The Black cats have been linked with a swoop for the England international when the transfer window re-opens next month.

However, Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has today rubbished those reports, saying that the player isn’t on his radar because of Premier League regulations over loan players.

The rules state that you can only have one player on loan from another Premier League club at one time, and with Yedlin on loan at Sunderland until the end of the season, the Black Cats are unable to sign anyone else from Spurs on a temporary basis.

Sunderland could sign Townsend on a permanent deal, but Allardyce yesterday revealed to the Echo that they are only looking at the loan market next month.
