A SUNDERLAND XI will take on League Two side York City in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, August 7 (7.30pm).
It will be the second year running Sunderland have played the Minstermen.
Last summer, manager Steve Bruce took a strong Sunderland side down to York for their first pre-season fixture which the Black Cats won 2-1, thanks to goals from Phil Bardsley and Oumare Tounkara.
This time, the Sunderland XI is due to feature reserve and academy players against a side whose successful campaign last season saw them promoted from the Conference back into League Two
Tickets will be available on the turnstiles on the evening of the game, priced £10 for general admission, £5 for concessions.
York have been managed by Gary Mills since 2010 – a team-mate of current Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill during Nottingham Forest’s European Cup defence under Brian Clough in 1980.
He led York to the 2012 FA Trophy in May before returning to Wembley later in the month to clinch the play-off title by seeing off Luton Town 2-1.
Sunderland’s reserve side now have five confirmed fixtures this summer with trips to Whitby Town on Tuesday, July 17 (7pm), Newton Aycliffe on Friday, July 20 (7:30pm), Spennymoor on Wednesday, July 25 (7:30pm) and Gateshead on Friday, August 3 (7:30pm) already lined up.
