Carlton Cole won’t be joining Sam Allardyce at Sunderland after the former England international signed a two-year deal at Celtic.

Allardyce is understood to be keen to bolster his striking options and Cole was an option, with the club able to sign free agents outside of the summer and winter transfer windows.

But the former West Ham United forward has joined Scottish giants Celtic, penning a two-year deal until the summer of 2017.

The 31-year-old striker worked under Allardyce at West Ham but has been strongly linked with a move to Celtic since leaving the Hammers.
