SUNDERLAND suffered a harrowing 6-2 rout at Manchester City tonight after missing the chance to move back into the Under-21 Premier League’s top four.
A Jordy Hiwula double gave the hosts an early 2-0 lead before City extended their advantage to three in the 13th minute through midfielder Seko Fofana.
An own goal from Olivier Ntcham saw Sunderland pull one back, but the Black Cats remained on the back foot with goalkeeper Joel Dixon forced to produce a superb save to deny Hiwula his hat-trick.
City made it four before the interval when Thomas Robson sent the ball into his own net, although Mikael Mandron went close to immediately pulling one back.
Early in the second half, Fofana then doubled his tally with a stunning strike from 40 yards.
With three minutes to go, Mandron grabbed a consolation for Sunderland before Devante Cole capped a miserable night for Kevin Ball’s side by netting City’s sixth.
