SUNDERLAND striker Steven Fletcher sustained an injury in tonight’s Scotland win over the Republic of Ireland which is likely to keep him out of Tuesday’s friendly against England.
“We wouldn’t be able to risk him,” said Scotland boss Gordon Strachan.
“We wouldn’t want to risk it for Sunderland. We’ll knock it on the head if he’s walking out of here with protective boots on. There’s no way we’re going to try and play him against England.”
Fletcher’s link-up play was impressive and he did well in his aerial battle with Sunderland team-mate John O’Shea but missed an early header and failed to connect with a Shaun Maloney cross. He limped off in the 55th minute after earlier being felled by a poor challenge by Aiden McGeady.
Scotland won 1-0 thanks to a brilliant Maloney strike in the 75th minute.
