SUNDERLAND have signed Arsenal’s young out-of-contract winger Roarie Deacon.

The 19-year-old joins the Black Cats on a one-year deal after impressing on a trial for Sunderland Reserves towards the end of last season and will go straight into the club’s second string next season.

Deacon came through the youth ranks at Arsenal to become a regular in the Reserves, where he made 16 appearances last season, scoring four goals.

Small of stature but speedy and skilful, he can play on either wing or up front and it was a surprise to many Gooners fans when he was not offered a new contract last season.

The London-born attacker was part of the Arsenal Under-19 team which reached the semi-finals of the Dallas Cup last season, firing in three goals in the prestigious youth tournament.

He joins fellow youngster, ex-Chelsea midfielder Billy Knott, in being picked up by Sunderland this year after a top four side decided not to pursue an interest.

H Ticket details for Sunderland’s pre-season friendly at Hartlepool United have been released.

The Black Cats take on their near-neighbours in a testimonial for long-serving midfielder Ritchie Humphreys at Victoria Park on Tuesday, August 2 (7.30pm).

Season card holders for the 2011/12 campaign can apply for tickets from 10am on Monday until Thursday, July 14, with any remaining tickets going on general sale from 10am on Tuesday, July 19.

Tickets are priced at £10 (adults) and £5 (over-60s and under-16s).
