Parkinson is believed to hope that this will hand him a boost in his chase of the in-demand striker

Sunderland have also been credited with an interest in the Robins’ centre back Bailey Wright, who finds himself out of favour under Lee Johnson.

Wright, who appeared for Australia at the 2014 World Cup, is Bristol City’s club captain but is believed to be one a host of players they are willing to allow to leave this month.

And reports suggest that the Black Cats have already lodged a bid to take the defender on loan until the end of the season – and are willing to pay his entire salary in a bid to seal the deal.

Another player linked with a move to the Stadium of Light is Burton Albion striker Liam Boyce.

Parkinson has made no secret of his desire to add an extra forward to his ranks, and Boyce is believed to be a serious target for the Wearsiders this month.

His contract is set to expire in the summer and, with Burton boss Nigel Clough admitting that the Northern Irish international will be sold for the right bid this month, there is hope of securing an agreement.

Reports north of the border claim that the Brewers are seeking a fee of around £250,000 for the forward – who is also attracting interest from Daniel Stendel’s Hearts.
