SUNDERLAND are in no rush to sanction a loan departure for in-demand winger Duncan Watmore.
The Echo reported earlier this week how Sunderland had received enquiries for youngsters Watmore, Mikael Mandron and David Ferguson, with the emergency loan window now open for Football Club clubs.
Watmore, in particular, has a lengthy list of admirers after the former Altrincham man has shone for Sunderland Under-21s since arriving at the Stadium of Light last summer.
However, Sunderland are currently keen for the 20-year-old to continue training alongside the first-team squad and are taking a selective approach over where and when to send him out on loan.
That is a situation which could change in the coming weeks though, with Gus Poyet not short on options on the flanks.
Greek winger Charis Mavrias, who impressed Poyet during the pre-season games, has not even been included on the bench for Sunderland’s last two games.
Poyet is keen for Sunderland’s promising youngsters to challenge for first-team inclusion this season, although he realises the benefits which stem from playing regularly in the Football League, rather than being confined to the club’s Under-21 set-up.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Town are the latest Championship club to be linked with a loan move for Danny Graham.
Sunderland are happy to sanction an emergency loan for Graham after the 29-year-old remained at the club, following the conclusion of the transfer window.
Watford and Middlesbrough both made enquiries with Sunderland over Graham’s availability earlier in the summer, but the pair were thought to be considering the former Swansea frontman as a contingency option.
Charlton were mentioned as a possible suitor for Graham last week and Ipswich have now been mooted as a potential destination for the striker, who has continued to train with Sunderland’s first-team squad.
However, Sunderland face the prospect of subsidising any loan move for Graham, due to his large salary at the Stadium of Light.
