SUNDERLAND midfielder Jordan Henderson has pulled out of the England U21 squad for tomorrow night’s friendly with Italy.
Henderson picked up a knock in Sunderland’s 3-2 defeat at Stoke City on Saturday and has been withdrawn from the party as a precaution.
The midfielder was substituted with five minutes to go at the Britannia Stadium – moments after the Potters had levelled proceedings for a second time.
Tomorrow’s game was due to be the 20-year-old’s return to the U21 set-up after making his senior bow under Fabio Capello last November.
But Henderson will now not be on England duty altogether and has returned to the Stadium of Light for treatment ahead of Saturday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
Henderson is one of eight withdrawls from the U21 squad, including Manchester City’s Micah Richards and Manchester United’s Chris Smalling.
