SUNDERLAND will face alternative opponents during their pre-season tour to Portugal after their friendly meeting with Benfica fell through.

The final details of the Black Cats’ trip to the Algarve have been confirmed and Gus Poyet’s side will now face C.D. National, rather than fellow Primeira Liga side Benfica, in the second of their three games on the Continent.

Sunderland’s opening friendly will be against Spanish Second Division outfit Recreativo de Huelva on Tuesday, July 29.

The Black Cats had been due to face Benfica 24 hours later, but due to circumstances beyond the club’s control, that game has now fallen through.

Instead, they will face C.D. National on the same night.

Poyet’s men will complete their trio of friendlies against Vitoria Setubal on Saturday, August 2.

All three games will take place at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira, in the city of Albufeira, with an 8pm kick-off.

Supporters can buy a three-game bundle, which provides access to each match, for 40 Euros or buy tickets individually for 15 Euros per game.

Information on how to buy tickets will be announced in due course.
