HIGHLY-RATED Sunderland defender Tom Beadling has extended his contract at the Stadium of Light.

Centre-half Beadling has penned a new deal with the Black Cats which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2017.

The 18-year-old, currently on the sidelines with injury, is understood to have impressed Sunderland’s hierarchy with his development after being part of the academy set-up since the age of eight.

Beadling is the third member of Sunderland’s Under-21 squad to agree a new contract over the last month after midfielder Martin Smith and winger Duncan Watmore also extended their stays.
