LEE Cattermole and Michael Turner have been ordered to rest until the summer in a bid to solve their persistent injury problems.
The Sunderland duo’s comebacks lasted just a month before they both suffered relapses, which have ruled them out for the remainder of the season.
Skipper Cattermole felt a twinge in his back during the defeat to Fulham last month, while Turner took a knock to his knee in training off fellow centre-half John Mensah.
A sustained period of rest is the only cure for both, although the pair are expected to report early for pre-season training.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce told the Echo: “The medical people have advised both players to shut down.
“Hopefully, their injuries will settle down with rest.”
