NEW interim Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez believes former Sunderland player Bolo Zenden will play a key role in his Stamford Bridge reign.

Benitez (pictured) has welcomed Dutchman Zenden, who played under him at Liverpool, to his backroom staff.

The Spaniard, who takes charge for the first time at home to champions Manchester City on Sunday, said: “I chose Bolo Zenden because he was my player and he was three years at Chelsea, he knows the environment and he also speaks different languages. He was a fantastic professional when he was my player.”

Benitez has also brought in fitness coach Paco De Miguel and analyst Xavi Valero, who were both at Anfield with him.

Benitez added: “I will not change that much because when I was talking to the club we knew they had some good coaches here.

“I am just bringing in some people that will make it easier for me because they know me so if I want to do something it will be quicker. We don’t have much time because we have a lot of matches in the next month.”
