SUNDERLAND are rumoured to be looking at signing Swedish 17-year-old hot-shot Valmir Berisha.
The Halmstads striker has sprung to prominence on the back of scoring a hat-trick for Sweden against Argentina in a 4-1 victory in last month’s Under-17s World Cup in Abu Dhabi, which saw him finish tournament top scorer with seven goals.
There are claims that that display in particular has put him on the radar of clubs including Liverpool, Tottenham, Ajax and Roma and it has inevitably sparked comparisons with Swedish goalscoring great Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But Sunderland are said to have offered the teenager a contract right now, in a bid to head off interest further on down the line, with the Black Cats believed to be able to get the Albanian-born striker for as little as £200,000 compensation.
Berisha has scored 13 goals in 17 appearances for the Swedish Under-17 side.
Previous stories have seen Spurs and Liverpool strongly linked to the youngster, but Halmstads themselves claim there has been no contact and are intent on trying to tying the young prospect down on a long-term contract.
