The Lady Black Cats, who are currently unbeaten in the third tier of women’s football, are set to welcome Stoke City to Eppleton CW on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

And despite all Premier League and EFL fixtures being postponed until April 4, the clash looks set to go ahead.

A statement from the FA WNL said: “Following management committee meetings held today [Friday] and taking into account current government guidance and FA advice, the FA Women’s National League has decided to allow fixtures to continue as planned this weekend.

“We continue to actively monitor the situation and remain in regular communication with the FA and our member clubs.

“The welfare of everyone involved in the FA WNL is of paramount importance and we will continue to support our clubs in their decisions regarding Sunday’s fixtures.

“We will continue to review all available information to make timely and informed decisions as the situation develops.”

However, players in the FA WNL were quick to voice their disappointment at the decision.

Emma Beckett of Watford – who have suspended their fixtures – said the decision was ‘reckless’.

“Personally, I feel this is a pretty reckless decision from the @FA and I’m proud to play for a club that has demonstrated concern and consideration for its own as well as others in exercising the right to cease all participation in the current climate.”
