Sunderland Ladies suffered their first WSL1 defeat of the season when Man City won at Hetton.
Nikita Parris gave City the lead five minutes from the break with sub Toni Duggan wrapping up the points with her first touch late on.
Sunderland made a bright start and were the first onto the front foot.
But there was little in the way of early chances with Parris having the first attempt at goal though it was high over the bar.
The Lady Black Cats went close in the 32nd minute when Steph Roche was just wide from range.
City immediately went up the other end only for Kossovare Assiani to head straight at Rachael Laws.
A spate of chances followed at each end and Jane Ross should have taken advantage of a spill by Laws from a Demi Stokes cross but the keeper recovered to grab the ball.
There was an opportunity seconds later at the City end when Karen Bardsley got down well to save a Roche header from an Abby Holmes cross.
Man City went ahead five minutes before the break through PARRIS.
Sunderland lost the ball and City moved it nicely into the home area where the forward finished emphatically high past Laws.
Man City 1
Beth Mead almost got clear in the 57th minute as Sunderland put together their best bit of pressure.
But City confirmed their danger by racing straight up field where Assiani put a good chance high, wide and not so handsome.
Sunderland were not helped by injuries, losing Tori Williams and Hayley Sharp within two minutes of each other.
Carlton Fairweather brought on young defenders Megan Beer and Charlotte Potts.#
Sunderland were undone 14 minutes from time by a smart finish by DUGGAN.
The hosts made a mess of clearing and City found Duggan in space, with rhe Englsand forward finding the left corner of Laws net.
