The Black Cats are already short of options on the left-side of the back four, with Denver Hume having recently suffered an injury setback.

Jake Vokins recently signed on loan from Southampton, but missed out on the Papa John’s Trophy tie at stadium:mk having already played in the competition for Southampton this season.

That mean Luke O’Nien was asked to deputise at left-back following McFadzean was made to exit the action.
