Sunderland have been handed a double injury blow – after losing Charlie Wyke and Joel Lynch to injury at Portsmouth.

The pair were both withdrawn during the defeat at Fratton Park, handing Phil Parkinson two fresh injury worries – just as the treatment table was beginning to clear.

Wyke suffered a shoulder injury in the first half and, having played through until half-time, was then replaced by Kyle Lafferty at the break.

Joel Lynch, meanwhile, was stretchered off the pitch during the dying stages of the game after a collision with goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

The centre back, who has been a regular in recent weeks, required lengthy medical attention on the pitch with staff from both Sunderland and Portsmouth tending to him.

Sunderland’s only current injury absentee is Elliot Embleton, who is set to be sidelined for several weeks after the recurrence of a hamstring injury thwarted his return.
