The results of an Echo survey on the club’s transfer business so far reveals 62% of fans want to see more signings made, with fans hoping for at least two new faces.

With the club up for sale, we asked whether Stewart Donald had done enough to bolster the squad in what could be his last transfer window in charge.

There was a clear winner when it came to who fans felt was the best signing made so far, defender Bailey Wright scooping 86.2% of votes.

Asked how many more players Sunderland needed to sign, 56.5% said between 1-2, while 37% wanted up to four new signings.

Asked whether Sunderland had so far added enough quality and depth to mount a serious promotion challenge and maintain it, 71% said more signings were needed ahead of a long campaign.

Normally by now the window would have closed and clubs would have done all their business but the delay to the start of the season meant it was extended until October 5.

And even then clubs have another fortnight after that for domestic deals, so in reality Sunderland have another couple of weeks to conclude their business, either permanent or loan signings.

Having already signed six players (Remi Matthews, Arbenit Xhemajli, Bailey Wright, Morgan Feeney, Aiden O’Brien and Danny Graham) Sunderland are looking to add one or two more.

Cover and competition at left-back is key, while another attacking option would be preferable for manager Phil Parkinson.

Boss Parkinson said: “We've just got to make sure we make the right, logical decisions to add to the balance we've already got.”

Sunderland, who have won seven out of nine points so far this season, travel to Charlton on Saturday afternoon looking to build on the 1-0 win over Peterborough United last weekend.
