George Dobson never really set League One on fire.

Friday marked the date of Dobson's departure from Wearside, as he secured a loan move to AFC Wimbledon for the rest of the season.

The constant switch of managers didn’t help him as he tried to push for a place in the first team.

During Jack Ross' reign, he experienced infrequent patches in the team, but never really got more than three consecutive games under his belt.

The situation changed with the change of managers from Ross to Phil Parkinson.

Parkinson gave Dobson an extended run in the side, but fans were never given a glimpse of his characteristics that were hailed so highly from his time at Walsall.

After the COVID-19 break, Parkinson opted for a different midfield partnership with Josh Scowen and Grant Leadbitter in the centre, with Dobson having to watch on.

With the news of his departure, some fans may have been relieved; like a weight off our shoulders, and there will be plenty more feelings like this in the final week of the transfer window.

Rumours of Will Grigg and Danny Graham being passed on to different clubs have been suggested.

Obviously, the salary cap will provide a major issue for the Black Cats to battle against, with the removal of Grigg and Graham likely to be related to this problem.

Lee Johnson's first transfer window at Sunderland was never going to be easy, with the ongoing background noise of the pending takeover, but with the clock ticking down, it is all the more crucial that more activity is recorded.
