Sunderland confirm Tranmere Rovers as their fourth pre-season opponent

Sunderland will travel to Prenton Park for their fourth confirmed pre-season friendly.

Lee Johnson’s Black Cats will face the Tranmere Rovers side they beat in the final of the Papa John’s Trophy at Wembley earlier this year.

The game will take place on Tuesday July 27th, just over a week before the League One campaign begins against Wigan Athletic at the Stadium of Light.

Updates on whether Sunderland fans cna attend the game, and whether there will be live streaming, is expected to follow at a later date.

Both Spennymoor Town, who the Black Cats face on Saturday, and York City, who they face on July 21st, have confirmed that only home supporters will be able to attend those fixtures.

Harrogate Town, who Sunderland face on July 24th, are yet to confirm their plans.

Tranmere will play in League Two again next season, after suffering defeat to Morecambe in the play-offs. They have since confirmed the reappointment of Micky Mellon as manager.
