The Black Cats have had three international call ups confirmed and have therefore decided to take up the chance to postpone the fixture.

Neil Critchley’s side will now travel to the Stadium of Light on Tuesday December 22nd, with the game set to kick-off at 7.45pm.

No announcements have been made yet, but Conor McLaughlin and Tom Flanagan are regulars in the Northern Ireland set up. Ian Baraclough’s side face Bosnia and Herzegovina in a EURO 2020 play-off next Thursday, before two UEFA Nations League fixtures against Austria and Norway.

Summer signing Arbenit Xhemajli was also called up by Kosovo in the most recent international window.

With Morgan Feeney set to be sidelined for four months with a hamstring injury, those call ups would leave Phil Parkinson short on options in defence.

The Black Cats boss wants to sign an additional defender as cover before the window shuts.
