STEVE Bruce admitted his Sunderland side was not good enough in their 2-0 loss to Liverpool.
Bruce was understandably upset at the officials when they wrongly awarded Liverpool a penalty for their opening goal, John Mensah’s challenge on Jay Spearing happening outside the box.
Referee Kevin Friend originally gave a free kick and changed his mind to award a spot kick on the advice of his assistant.
But the Black Cats’ manager confessed the decision probably did not change the ultimate outcome.
He said: “I have got no complaints about the result - it might not have affected the result, the way we played today.
“However, that was a really big, key decision for somebody 80 yards away - or 70 yards away at least - to overturn the referee.
“I knew and [fourth official] Martin Atkinson knew within five seconds that it was outside the box with the technology we have got.
“Surely it has got to be time for those sort of things to be brought into play with all the technology we have got today.
“But it was one of those horrible afternoons.”
