Sam Allardyce says he is not disrespecting the FA Cup by making changes to his line-up for Saturday’s third round tie at Arsenal.

But the Sunderland manager does blame Premier League bosses for putting unnecessary pressure on managers.

Allardyce could play several fringe and younger players at the Emirates as he tries to keep his players fresh for Wednesday’s Premier League trip to Swansea which is followed by an early kick-off at Spurs three days later.

“It’s a horrendous week for us,” said Allardyce on talkSPORT this morning.

“I will have to make changes. The midweek fixture is wrong - it is a disrespect to the FA Cup because they have put a fixture in there (next week).

“Don’t blame me. I’m not disrepecting the FA Cup. If there was not a midweek game, I’d be putting out my strongest side.

“Richard Scudamore and his board have not helped us at all as we try to stay in this league.”
