Sunderland goalkeeper Trevor Carson has joined Npower Championship side Hull City on a month’s loan.

The 23-year-old, who has previous Football League loans with Chesterfield, Lincoln, Brentford and Bury, has been snapped up by Tigers boss Nick Barmby, who has just been installed permanently and guided his side to sixth in the Championship.

Carson, who was called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad for the first time in 2010, has been a regular feature for Sunderland’s reserve side after emerging through the club’s Academy structure and had a spell on the bench this season due to injuries to Craig Gordon and Kieren Westwood.
