Rising star Jordan Pickford wants to make the region proud after starring in his breakthrough season.
As a youngster growing up in Washington playing five-a-side with his friends, Pickford’s dream was to play for his boyhood club Sunderland.
The 23-year-old achieved that under Sam Allardyce when he made his debut in the FA Cup defeat to Arsenal last season.
And now under David Moyes, Pickford has established himself as number one with his performances catching the eye of several Premier League clubs including Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
“It is a dream come true to play for Sunderland and when I think about where I’ve come from and what I’m currently doing it makes me proud,” said Pickford
“I have so many great memories of growing up in Washington and hopefully I can do the region proud.
“It is good but I always remember areas of Washington I used to go and play football.
“I used to go and play five-a-side with my mates and we’d play anywhere – literally anywhere we could.”
