Jermain Defoe’s future has been the cause of much speculation in recent days – with more headlines this morning.
Defoe has again been linked with a move to Bournemouth, who are said to be weighing up a January loan bid for him.
The striker told the Echo that he was frustrated with sitting on the bench at Sunderland, and that he hopes he’s given the chance to fire the club to safety.
He said: “We’ll see what happens. But at the age of 33, you want to play football.
“I didn’t come here to sit on the bench. I came here to score goals, I said that from day one.”

He said: “Going from the weekend, which normally happens when you have a nice victory, we haven’t got anybody reporting injuries.
