Sunderland AFC transfer news: Will Grigg to Shrewsbury latest, 'target' eyed by Leeds and Celtic, rivals in £10m bombshell

Time is running out for Sunderland to make moves in the winter transfer market.

There’s still no fresh news on Kiril Louis-Dreyfus’ takeover of Sunderland, with a deal said to be with the EFL for ratification.

Sunderland, however, bounced back from a loss against Plymouth Argyle with back-to-back 1-0 wins against Shrewsbury Town and Ipswich Town.

However, Shrewsbury Town are expected to win the race to sign striker Will Grigg.

Reports suggested earlier this week that the former Wigan man was the subject of interest from with MK Dons and Salford City.

Grigg has agreed a deal with the Shrews that will see him move to New Meadow for the remainder of the campaign – according to Football Insider.

in other transfer news, Josh Doig of Hibernian is attracting interest from Leeds, Manchester City and Celtic.

The 18-year-old had been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

Football insider claim that MK Dons, Oxford United and Plymouth are all interested in signing Fleetwood Town midfielder Harrison Biggins.

The 24-year-old Biggins, spent the first half of the campaign on loan at League Two new boys Barrow, where he’s impressed, contributing to five goals in 25 appearances.

Paul Cook – formerly Wigan Athletic and Portsmouth manager – has reportedly turned down the chance to take the vacant managers job at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 53-year-old revealed last week that initial talks with the Owls had fallen flat but has now turned down an approach from the club to manage them on a short-term basis, report The Athletic.

Finally, a loan of £10 million by Northampton Borough Council to Northampton Town "demonstrated poor decision making" and had a "near-complete lack of an approved business case", an independent report published on Wednesday evening has concluded.

The report, carried out by external auditor KPMG, has listed a series of recommendations following its investigations. It has been published in full on the council's website.
