The former Northampton Town stopper had a number of suitors this summer, including clubs in the Championship, but the East Anglian Daily Times claim he is ready to put pen to paper at Portman Road.

They also suggest that Sunderland were one of the sides interested in the Welshman, but add that Phil Parkinson’s side are now likely to turn their attention to Remi Matthews.

Charlton’s chances of Aiden McGeady deal fade

Any chance of Charlton Athletic agreeing a permanent deal for Aiden McGeady look to have faded – after the Addicks were placed under fresh financial controls.

After spending the second half of last season on loan with the Addicks, there was hope that the 34-year-old could find himself a new permanent home having fallen out of favour under Phil Parkinson.

And while it was unlikely that Charlton would launch a move to land McGeady on a permanent basis following their relegation to League One, any propsect of a move now looks minimal after the club were issued with new financial guidelines by the EFL.

Lee Bowyer wasn’t able to seal any deals in the early weeks of the window with the club under a contract embargo, and South London Press report that while the club can now offer contracts to players, they are capped at a fee of £1,300 per week.

That limit would likely fall well below McGeady’s expected salary.

Sunderland take defender on trial

Sunderland are understood to have taken former Everton defender Morgan Feeney on trial.

The youngster, who has made just three senior appearances in his career, is one option under consideration as Parkinson looks to bolster his defensive options.
