Sunderland will welcome Mansfield Town to the Stadium of Light in the FA Cup first round on Saturday - and we’ve got all the details covered.

It is unclear exactly what sort of team Phil Parkinson will select this weekend – but Sunderland’s manager may be tempted to hand a start to reserve goalkeeper Remi Matthews.

Will Grigg, Jack Diamond, Dan Neil and Elliot Embleton could also feature if the Black Cats boss decides to rotate his squad.

Midfielder Josh Scowen is a doubt for the game after being forced off against Ipswich Town with a concussion, which could see George Dobson return.

Earlier this week Sunderland were linked with a move for 19-year-old defender Lewie Earl.

The Sun's, Alan Nixon, claims the Black Cats are keeping tabs on the former Burnley trialist following his recent exit from Turf Moor.

Sunderland are short of options at the back following injuries to Morgan Feeney and Arbenit Xhemajli, while Jordan Willis needs an injection to heal his patella issue.

Parkinson did bring on Dion Sanderson in loan from Wolves last month.

Reported target find new club

Sunderland and League One rivals Fleetwood were both linked with former Liverpool full-back before the introduction of the League One salary cap.

The 27-year-old became a free agent after he was released by Rangers at the end of last season but has now signed a one-year deal with Belgian side Sporting Charleroi.

It didn’t cause them to have a slow start!

Tom Flanagan and Conor McLaughlin have been handed international call-ups

Sunderland are preparing for the eventuality that they may have to play their next League One game without two key defenders.

Conor McLaughlin and Tom Flanagan – both of whom have been regular members of the backline in recent weeks – have been called-up to the Northern Ireland squad for their Euro 2020 play-off tie against Slovakia.

Their inclusion in the squad means they will miss the Black Cats’ clash with MK Dons in what is their next League One fixture.

And while Sunderland have previously called-off fixtures which have landed during an international window, they may not have that option this time around.

The injury to Kosovan international defenderArbenit Xhemajli means that only Flanagan and McLaughlin are currently set to depart for international duty – leaving the Wearsiders one player short of the three absentees required to call-off the game.
