Sunderland bolstered their chances of reaching the knockout stages of the Checkatrade Trophy after a convincing 3-1 win over Carlisle United.

It was a memorable night for three Sunderland youngsters, as Benji Kimpioka was handed his first start for the Black Cats, while Jack Diamond and Lee Connelly made their debuts off the bench.
