Attention is turning to this weekend’s crunch clash against West Ham today, as Sunderland eye their first win of the season.
Sunderland summer transfer target Carl Jenkinson - who decided to rejoin the Hammers on loan from Arsenal, rather than move to the Stadium of Light - has been having his say on the game.
While the Black Cats are desperate for break their duck, they face a West Ham side who have triumphed on their travels at Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
“If we can execute the games that we have played away from home this season then I think we will be fine,” said Jenkinson.
Sunderland will need to vastly improve their defensive resilience if they are to end West Ham’s 100 per cent away record after shipping 16 goals in their opening seven games.
And ex-Black Cats winger Chris Waddle fears that Sunderland will struggle to beat the drop while they are conceding that quantity of goals. Full story here
The Sunderland camp are well aware of the need for dramatic improvement at the back though, with right-back Billy Jones admitting the players are “embarrassed” by their defensive record this season.
