Swedish international Ola Toivonen is urging Sunderland to think positively in tomorrow’s Premier League trip to high-flying Manchester United.

The Black Cats are in desperate need of a first clean sheet of the season as they look to climb off the bottom of the table.

But on-loan midfielder Toivonen says that Sunderland must avoid falling into the trap of stockpiling men behind the ball in a bid to scramble a result this weekend and reverse a trend which has seen the Black Cats ship 20 goals in their opening eight games in league and cup.

“To go to United away, you need to dare to play because if you just defend, defend, defend for 90 minutes then that is tough,” said the Swede.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are working to tie Duncan Watmore down to a new deal, with the Black Cats prospect in the final 12 months of his contract.
