The transfer window might have closed but reports today say Sunderland’s sporting director Lee Congerton is a target of German side Borussia Monchengladbach.

Congerton has been on Wearside since March 2014 having left a similar role in Germany with SV Hamburg.

And Monchengladbach want to take him back to the Bundesliga, according to reports.

Niall Quinn, meanwhile, has called for owner Ellis Short to be given more respect after defending his reign at the club.

Club legend Quinn said: “This man came in a stranger to the area, and he’s put more than just a pile of money into it, he’s put his heart and soul into it at times.”

Duncan Watmore scored for the Under 21s away at Everton - but boss Robbie Stockdale wasn’t happy with his side’s performance in the 1-1 draw.

He said: “We were disappointed that we conceded so early in the game.

“I thought we showed good character to comeback and we showed exceptional bits of play, so we should’ve scored more than one.

“I think it was a decent point because it’s always tough to come to Everton, but it says something when we can go home from an away match disappointed.”

Meanwhile, tickets for next Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash against Manchester City are still on sale.

The Black Cats host the unbeaten Barclays Premier League leaders in a 7.45pm kick-off at the Stadium of Light, as the sides meet in the League Cup for the first time since the 2014 final.
