Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has ruled out a January loan move for Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Allardyce has rubbished reports the England international could be heading to the Stadium of Light.

Meanwhile, ahead of the trip to Arsenal on Saturday, the Sunderland boss has been dealt a double injury blow.

Both Jermain Defoe and Seb Larsson have been ruled out through injury.

Striker Defoe has a minor hamstring problem, but could be available for next week's visit of Watford.

The injury to Larsson is more serious, with the Swedish international wearing a protective knee brace for a medial ligament issue.

Larsson has just returned from Barcelona to see a specialist, although the time-scale is uncertain over the extent of the midfielder's lay-off.
